PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former Fred Meyer employee has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $60,000 from the retailer, according to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office.

Rainbow Melodi Stammet, 43, of Oregon City, was convicted Tuesday on two counts of first-degree aggravated theft and one count of first-degree theft. Several other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Prosecutors noted Stammet has no prior criminal history and has already begun paying restitution to Fred Meyer.

The theft was discovered in March 2023, when loss prevention officers observed Stammet taking cash from a self-checkout station at the Oregon City location. When confronted by police, she admitted to stealing the money to fund her gambling addiction, specifically using some of it at a local video poker establishment.

Fred Meyer officials reported that the thefts began as early as May 2022, though the full extent of the financial loss is unclear.

Stammet had been employed with the company for two years prior to her arrest. She is scheduled to be sentenced on August 4.
