A 39-year-old government officer from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, thought he found the perfect match in Rahul Chaturvedi, whose eye-catching profile on a matrimonial website claimed he graduated from IIM, Bengaluru, and held a lucrative position as a vice president in Wipro’s HR department.

However, things took a turn when Chaturvedi began borrowing money from the officer on multiple occasions, accumulating debts of Rs2.27 lakh. After Chaturvedi reached out to her younger brother for more money, she decided enough was enough and approached the police on September 7.

Investigations revealed that Chaturvedi’s salary slip and other documents were forgeries. He had created profiles on matrimonial platforms like Betterhalf and Jeevansathi to defraud at least 16 other women under the guise of marriage.

Data retrieved from Chaturvedi’s phone unveiled his clandestine activities, indicating that the total fraud amounted to ₹15 lakh.

On Tuesday, Gautam Buddh Nagar police arrested Chaturvedi from a rented house in Noida as part of their investigation into the case filed at the Bisrakh police station on September 7.
