Rachel Watts Sanders Sentenced for Mail Theft and Wire Fraud

Former Louisiana postal contractor gets 5 years probation

NEW ORLEANS, LA — On August 28, 2025, Rachel Watts Sanders, 39, of Loranger, Louisiana, was sentenced to five years of probation for her role in a federal wire fraud and mail theft case, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson. The final determination of restitution is pending.

Court documents reveal that Sanders, while employed as a Postal Highway Contract Route contractor in Franklinton, Louisiana, engaged in a scheme that involved stealing over 40 checks from the mail. She forged endorsements on the stolen checks and deposited them into her personal bank account, resulting in financial losses totaling $22,717.66.

Sanders previously pleaded guilty to:

Wire fraud, in violation of Title 18 U.S. Code § 1343

Mail theft, in violation of Title 18 U.S. Code § 1708

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Calogero of the General Crimes Unit.
