In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) busted a drug trafficking module with the arrest of Akashdeep Singh, a resident of Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran, and recovered 5.084 kg heroin, 1.681 kg ICE (methamphetamine), and Rs 6.50 lakh in drug money, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The operation was conducted by the ANTF Ropar Range. Along with contraband and cash, police also recovered a leather bag, two electronic weighing machines, and impounded the accused’s white Chevrolet Cruze car (DL 82 AP 9522), used to deliver drug consignments.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Akashdeep Singh had links with a key handler coordinating the delivery and distribution of narcotics. Further investigation is underway to trace the network’s backward and forward linkages to dismantle it completely.
AIG (ANTF – Ropar Range) A.S. Aulakh said that acting on specific intelligence, an ANTF team led by DSP Yogesh Kumar conducted a raid at a flat in Nature Hut 3, Kharar. During the raid, Akashdeep Singh was arrested, while two of his associates fled by jumping from the balcony into an adjacent empty plot.
Police are conducting further raids to apprehend the two absconding suspects. More recoveries are expected in the coming days. A case dated November 24 has been registered under Sections 21-C and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Mohali Police Station.
