In a joint operation early Monday morning, police teams from Katra Kotwali, Chilh, and the Special Operation Group (SOG) arrested two looters following a gunfire exchange near Ojhala Bridge in Varanasi.

According to Mirzapur ASP (City) Nitesh Singh, the police received a tip-off about the suspects’ movements and promptly set up a cordon near Ojhala Bridge under the Katra Kotwali jurisdiction. As two motorcycle-borne youths, identified as Prince Tiwari and Aman Singh, passed the area, police signaled them to stop.

Instead of complying, the suspects opened fire and tried to flee. Police returned fire in self-defense, injuring Prince Tiwari in the leg. Both were arrested and a search recovered two firearms, live cartridges, a motorcycle stolen from Mirzamurad in Varanasi, Rs 3,980 in cash, a gold necklace, and a silver bracelet.

The accused, originally from Gopiganj in Bhadohi district, had cash rewards of Rs 20,000 each on their heads and were wanted in multiple loot cases.
