Pratapgarh police arrested two prime suspects, Nisar (23) and Banke alias Ramesh Kumar (27), in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old boy. Both accused, who had a Rs 25,000 cash reward on their heads, were apprehended while planning to flee to Mumbai.
The boy had left his home on Thursday to buy household items but was found dead in a well in Rajapur village, under Kotwali Dehat police station, late Saturday night.
Following an FIR, police formed four teams and launched an extensive search operation. The accused confessed that Nitin, a resident of Namak Shayar, had sought revenge as the victim allegedly harassed his sister. A group of five to six individuals, including Kuldeep and Puneet, assaulted the boy, rendering him unconscious before dumping his body in the well.
Police continue their search for the other accused involved in the crime.
