The Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of Changlang district police made a significant breakthrough in their fight against drug trafficking on Thursday, when they apprehended a drug peddler and seized 44 soap cases containing suspected heroin. The heroin weighed a total of 494.31 grams, along with cash amounting to Rs 1,95,900, believed to be the proceeds from sales.

Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu confirmed that the peddler was caught in the presence of Bordumsa ADC Suraj Gurung. The seizure is regarded as one of the most significant drug busts in the district in recent months. Acting on reliable intelligence, an ADS team led by Bordumsa PS OC Inspector Tomai Wangpan conducted a raid on the house of Junmoni Singpho (32), a resident of Wagun-I village in Bordumsa circle. During the search, the contraband was found, leading to Singpho’s arrest. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, in Lower Subansiri district, the Ziro police carried out two separate operations, arresting three drug peddlers and seizing a total of 10.3 grams of suspected heroin. The first operation took place on April 21, when the police arrested Tailyang Tado after receiving credible information about a peddler operating in Kalung village in Old Ziro. The police recovered four grams of heroin from three plastic vials and 88 empty vials during a search of his house.

In another operation on April 23, two peddlers, Lingdum Takia and Hari Chetry, were arrested from a dumper truck near the Indian Oil petrol pump in Pai Gate, Ziro. The police found six plastic vials containing 6.3 grams of heroin in their possession. Two separate NDPS cases have been registered, and investigations are continuing.

Both operations are part of the ongoing efforts by the police in Arunachal Pradesh to curb the growing issue of drug trafficking in the region.
