MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — Kadeane Swaby, a 29-year-old pharmacy technician from West Gate Hills, St. James, was arrested on March 31 after allegedly deceiving a woman out of over $270,000 in a fake job offer scheme. The scam, which took place between April 2023 and September 2024, involved Swaby convincing the victim that her uncle could secure a job for her in the Cayman Islands.
The complainant reportedly gave Swaby her passport and an initial payment of $18,000 to begin the hiring process. She later paid an additional $255,000 to finalize the job offer. However, when the woman followed up about the job, Swaby provided numerous excuses. Upon reaching out to Swaby’s uncle via a social networking platform, the woman learned he was unaware of any such arrangement and did not offer employment.
Realizing she had been scammed, the woman confronted Swaby, who promised to refund the money by September 21, 2024. When no refund was received, the woman filed a police report. On March 31, police detained Swaby after the victim identified her, and she was charged with larceny by trick.
Swaby now faces serious charges following the investigation into the fraudulent scheme.
