Peter Carey Jailed for Stealing Despite Shop Ban in Coventry

Carey sentenced for theft after being banned from Home Bargains

by Amelia Crawford

A Coventry thief has been jailed after ignoring a shop ban and stealing from a Home Bargains store. Peter Carey, 51, of St Georges Road, had already been prohibited from entering any Home Bargains store when he was caught stealing from the Cross Point location in November and December last year.

Carey, with a history of shop theft convictions, was quickly identified as the prime suspect and arrested. In court, he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and one theft charge. On February 10, he was sentenced to 23 weeks in jail at Coventry Magistrates Court.

Local authorities are committed to addressing retail crime and supporting business owners in Coventry. Coventry Police regularly carry out visible and plain-clothed patrols to monitor retail areas, ensuring offenders are caught and punished. The police have pledged to continue targeting individuals causing harm to businesses and customers.

Carey’s sentence serves as a reminder that those who repeatedly commit crimes against businesses will face significant consequences.
