Delhi Police have uncovered a fake loan scam involving impersonation and cyber fraud, leading to the arrest of two individuals—Pawan Kumar (36) and Mohd Rehbar (28). The accused allegedly posed as representatives of Bajaj Finance Private Limited and cheated a man out of Rs1.92 lakh.
The case came to light after Mohammad Hasib, a resident of Bhalswa Dairy, lodged a complaint about unauthorized deductions from his bank account. Hasib believed he was securing a Rs25 lakh loan but ended up being duped by scammers who posed as Bajaj Finance officials. He was asked to pay processing and policy fees, but no loan was ever sanctioned.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Hareshwar V. Swami confirmed the arrests, stating that an FIR was registered on April 25, triggering a detailed investigation involving technical surveillance and financial tracking. Raids were conducted in Tilak Nagar and Sabhapur Extension, resulting in the duo’s arrest.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to orchestrating the scam and using false identities. Police recovered 10 keypad phones, 5 Android smartphones, 2 cheque books, a rubber stamp, and one desktop computer from their possession.
The investigation is ongoing, with police probing the extent of the racket and whether more victims or accomplices are involved.
