Acting on a tip-off, Patna district police arrested Mukesh Kumar alias Budhan Gop, a former member of the banned outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), from his home in Noniabigha village under Hilsa police station in Nalanda district on Friday. The arrest is connected to the murders of two police officers in 2016.
Barh Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO)-1 Rakesh Kumar said the operation was part of an ongoing effort to apprehend fugitives. “We received information about the accused’s location and immediately formed a team to conduct the raid, which led to his arrest,” he said.
Kumar had allegedly shot Sub-Inspector Suresh Thakur (45) from Maranchi police station and murdered Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramraj Chaudhary (50), who was stationed at Telhara in Nalanda, in Fatuha.
Authorities said a total of 13 cases, including murder, robbery, and dacoity, are registered against Mukesh Kumar. During interrogation, he admitted his past membership in the PLFI and confessed that the killings were carried out after two PLFI members went missing. To evade police, he frequently changed his name and location. Further investigation into his activities is ongoing.
