The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained Onu Simeon in connection with the fatal altercation that resulted in the death of Ifeanyi Chukwu at Utako Market, Abuja. On February 5, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., the police received a distress call about a fight at the market. Officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they found Ifeanyi Chukwu unconscious. He was promptly taken to NNPC Hospital, Utako, but was declared dead by a doctor.
Initial investigations suggest that Onu Simeon, a resident of Anguwan Biggy, Jabi Daki Biyu, and Ifeanyi Chukwu, who lived in Kuchigoro, Lugbe, were involved in a dispute over space to display their goods. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Chukwu collapsed and lost consciousness.
Chukwu’s body has been transferred to a general hospital for further examination, and Onu Simeon is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has called for residents to resolve disputes peacefully and stressed the severe consequences of violence. He reassured the public that the police are committed to upholding law and order throughout the FCT. Further updates on the case will be provided as the investigation progresses.
