Karaikal police have arrested Naina Mohamed, who is accused of operating a fraudulent travel agency and cheating at least 50 people out of approximately Rs25 lakh. The arrest took place on Friday after a special police team apprehended Mohamed in Karaikal.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Mohamed ran his scam under various names, operating in multiple districts across Tamil Nadu and Karaikal. He promised victims travel services and overseas jobs, but instead of providing the promised services, he defrauded them of their money.
Victims were lured by the false promises of work abroad and affordable travel packages, only to find that they had been cheated out of substantial amounts of money. The fraud is believed to involve over Rs25 lakh in total, affecting around 50 individuals.
The Karaikal police, acting on the complaints from the victims, formed a special team to track down Mohamed. His arrest marks a significant step in unraveling the full extent of the fraudulent operation. Further investigations are ongoing to determine if he had accomplices or if the scam was part of a larger network.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious when dealing with travel agencies offering job placements or travel services abroad, especially those requiring upfront payments.
