The Bund Garden police cracked a Rs 70 lakh robbery near Pune railway station on June 11 by arresting Dharmesh Prabhulal Rebari, a 19-year-old staffer of a Mumbai-based logistics firm. Police investigations revealed that the robbery was an inside job, and they are now searching for his two accomplices, reportedly in Rajasthan and Delhi.
Dharmesh had initially claimed that two men had threatened him at gunpoint and robbed him, but discrepancies in his phone location and records exposed his false story. Senior Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad stated that the CCTV footage near the prepaid autorickshaw stand—a busy spot during morning rush hours—showed Dharmesh moving freely and not raising an alarm after the alleged robbery.
Dharmesh confessed during intense interrogation that he plotted the crime with his childhood friends, who are still on the run. The three had coordinated their movements through a social media platform, deliberately avoiding conventional calls and messages. The accomplices stayed in Kasarsai near Hinjewadi before carrying out the robbery.
The stolen items include 740 grams of gold jewellery, along with Dharmesh’s ID cards, PAN card, and cellphone. The police teams have been dispatched to Rajasthan and Delhi in pursuit of the suspects.
Dharmesh joined the logistics firm through employee references from Rajsamand, Rajasthan, and was paid a monthly salary of Rs 14,000. The crime has shocked the company and raised concerns over insider threats in the logistics industry.
