In a major breakthrough, Puthalapattu police arrested Mohan Babu (55), a most-wanted criminal linked to multiple ganja smuggling cases, dealing a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the district.
Mohan Babu, a resident of Bandapalli village, has nine ganja cases and three Gaming Act violations registered across police stations in Puthalapattu, GD Nellore, Yadamari, Thuni, and Gudem.
Acting on directives from SP Tushar Dudi to protect youth from ganja addiction, police teams led by DSP Sainath intensified surveillance. Acting on a tip-off, Inspector D Gopi apprehended Babu at Vaddipalli Cross along the Chittoor-Piler highway on Monday.
According to DSP Sainath, the accused sourced ganja from Visakhapatnam, sold it locally, and involved family members in his operations. Both SP Dudi and DSP Sainath commended Inspector Gopi and his team and announced rewards for the successful operation.
