Ullal, Karnataka: In a breakthrough in local theft cases, police have arrested a woman named Minnath, a resident of Ullal, in connection with two separate gold chain thefts. A total of 18 grams of gold, valued at Rs1.80 lakh, has been recovered from the accused.
The first incident occurred on June 2, when Rahmath, a resident of Belma village, visited Sagar Collection, a garment store in Tokkottu, with her children. Due to rain, they took shelter near Street Palace Bakery, where a burqa-clad woman allegedly snatched a 10-gram gold chain from Rahmath’s daughter and fled. A case was filed at the Ullal police station.
Following leads, police arrested Minnath on September 12, and during interrogation, she confessed to the chain snatching. Officers also recovered the stolen chain.
Further investigation revealed that Minnath had committed another theft on July 9 during a wedding at KMS Convention Hall. She had stolen an 8-gram gold chain from a bag. This incident had been registered at Konaje police station, and the stolen chain from this case was also recovered.
Minnath has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody. Police Commissioner confirmed the recovery of all 18 grams of gold, and stated that further investigation is ongoing to determine if the accused is linked to additional thefts.
