WSVN reporter charged in $16K watch theft in Miami

MIAMI, FL — A South Florida news reporter has been arrested for allegedly stealing a $16,000 Rolex watch from his neighbor while they were overseas.

Michael Hudak, 29, a reporter for WSVN-ABC Miami, is accused of entering his neighbor’s home and stealing the luxury watch during a two-week trip the victim took to Spain in July.

According to police, the neighbor had entrusted Hudak with a spare key for emergencies only and did not authorize anyone to enter the home during their absence. Upon returning, the victim noticed the Rolex was missing, though there were no signs of forced entry.

Weeks later, authorities informed the victim that the watch had been pawned locally—and investigation revealed Hudak used his own Florida ID to do so.

Hudak turned himself in at Miami Police Headquarters on Thursday and was charged with grand theft and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, both felonies. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bond still pending as of Thursday afternoon.

In a statement, WSVN confirmed that Hudak “has been suspended without pay at this time.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
