SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting tied to a drug dispute, though the individual who pulled the trigger remains unidentified.
According to South Salt Lake Police, the shooting occurred on Wednesday and involved 50-year-old Michael Angus and two unidentified men. The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot and killed at his apartment.
Surveillance footage showed the three men arriving at the residence and putting on gloves as they approached, an act police say indicated they were prepared to use force and avoid leaving fingerprints.
When the victim opened the door, an altercation followed that ended in his death. After being identified, Angus admitted to police that the visit was an attempt to recover money from a previous drug transaction. He alleged that the victim had sold him fake drugs two or three days earlier.
Angus claimed the victim drew a gun first, prompting one of the men with him to shoot. However, Angus refused to identify the other two individuals involved.
He was arrested and booked on a felony charge of aggravated murder and is currently being held without bail.
