Meerut police have successfully cracked a jewellery robbery case involving a loot of Rs 50 lakh with the arrest of three suspects, two of whom sustained injuries during an encounter, officials said on Wednesday. Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh stated that the robbery took place on August 12 near Sohrab Gate bus stand, where a trader was robbed of jewellery worth nearly Rs 50 lakh.
Following a detailed investigation, a case was registered at Nauchandi police station. The police traced and intercepted the suspects in the Jagriti Vihar Extension area on Wednesday. During the encounter, Vishwajit Singh (34) from Dehradun and Mohammad (28) from Pune sustained bullet injuries in their legs, while Durgesh Kumar (49) from Saharanpur was arrested, the SP added.
Police recovered 304 grams of gold jewellery, Rs 50,000 cash, two illegal firearms, and two motorcycles allegedly used in the crime from the accused. The trio is now in police custody as the investigation continues.
In a separate case, Muzaffarnagar police booked the principal, vice principal, and coordinator of JK Academy Inter College for alleged abetment of suicide following the death of Bhim, a 16-year-old class 12 student. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim’s father, Vedpal, who alleged his son was beaten and harassed by the college staff, which led to his tragic suicide by hanging on August 6. The accused include Rahul (principal), Dilshad (vice principal), and Sanni (coordinator), as per SHO Anand Dev Mishra.
