Two men were recently arrested in Polk County for separate crimes.
Mario Bernal, 23, from Polk County, was arrested after making threats toward Camp Cho-Yeh, where he used to work. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office investigated and got a warrant for his arrest. With help from the Livingston Police Department, deputies found and arrested Bernal without any trouble. He is now in the Polk County Jail with a $50,000 bond and is charged with making a terroristic threat, which is a felony.
In a different case, Matthew “Billy” Boyce, 38, was arrested for scamming an elderly person in a local retirement community. Police say Boyce told the person he would repair their roof, took several thousand dollars, but never did the work. Detectives got a warrant for his arrest for exploitation of the elderly, which is also a felony. He was arrested in Athens, Texas, on June 20 and brought to the Polk County Jail. He has since been released on bond.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone to be careful, especially when dealing with strangers asking for money, and to report any scams or threats right away.
