GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — A Quincy man is in custody after a dramatic attempt to flee police following a reported fuel theft on Saturday evening near Ephrata.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 5 p.m. to a report of a man stealing fuel in the 7500 block of Martin Road NW. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Marcos Trevino, fled into a nearby orchard when officers arrived.

While deputies and Ephrata Police searched the area, a nearby resident called 911 after spotting a man matching Trevino’s description at their home asking for a ride.

Law enforcement quickly closed in, but Trevino escalated the escape by stealing an ATV and attempting to flee. His escape was short-lived—he hit a mud patch, crashed the ATV, and continued fleeing on foot.

Authorities deployed drones and a K9 unit, but the initial dog became overheated and tired after an hour. The Moses Lake Police Department sent in another K9, which successfully tracked Trevino in the orchard. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Trevino was booked into Grant County Jail and faces several charges, including:

Theft of a motor vehicle

Attempting to elude police

Two counts of trespassing

Resisting arrest
