A gang involved in filing fake FIRs to claim insurance for vehicles that had already been sold has been busted by the police. The mastermind behind this fraudulent scheme, identified as Manoj Sharma, a 41-year-old resident of Jhajjar, Haryana, was arrested by Outer District’s police after a thorough investigation.
Sharma, facing financial difficulties, came up with a plan to sell his commercial vehicles and then file fake FIRs, claiming they had been stolen. Each false claim allowed him to collect substantial insurance payouts, which he used to lead a luxurious life built on lies.
During the police interrogation, Manoj Sharma confessed that he had purchased 3 JCB machines and 2 tractors, which he later sold to individuals. Investigators discovered that a tractor, reported as stolen in an e-FIR filed on February 1, was found in Uttarakhand, while another tractor, listed as stolen in an e-FIR filed on August 10, was located in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Sharma further disclosed that he had sold a JCB to a buyer in Kashmir and registered a fake e-FIR at Paschim Vihar East Police Station to claim the insurance money. The police team that went to Kashmir recovered the JCB, which had been falsely reported as stolen in Kargil, over 1,200 km from Delhi.
