A 34-year-old man, along with his accomplice, was arrested for a burglary worth Rs 8 lakh in Dwarka. The crime was reportedly committed to buy anniversary gifts for their wives, police stated on Wednesday.

The two accused, identified as Manoj Kumar (34) and Ashok Kumar (39), carried out the burglary on the night of March 21. They broke into a shop in Kakrola, stealing Rs 8 lakh in cash. Following a detailed investigation involving over 100 CCTV camera analyses and tracking the suspects’ movements, the police traced the duo to Gurgaon and Bahadurgarh. The arrests were made on March 28 and March 30, respectively.

DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh mentioned that during questioning, Manoj Kumar admitted to his financial struggles and confessed that he planned to buy his wife a mobile phone as an anniversary gift. Ashok Kumar cited similar financial hardships as the motive behind his participation in the crime.

Following their arrest, the police recovered the car used in the crime, as well as house-breaking tools and four mobile phones. Two of the phones had been purchased with the stolen money. Both accused have prior criminal records, with involvement in over two dozen cases of burglary, theft, snatching, and robbery.

Their arrests have also helped solve 12 pending cases at various police stations across Delhi. The investigation is ongoing as further details are being uncovered.
