In a significant development from Kochi, Malayalam rapper Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, was arrested by the Hill Palace Police along with eight others after 6 grams of ganja were recovered from their apartment.
The arrest followed a period of surveillance, during which the police monitored the group’s activities. The apartment, reportedly used by Vedan and his team for practice sessions, became the focus of the investigation after suspicious activity was noted.
6 grams of ganja found openly kept on the tables
Rs9.5 lakh in cash
Multiple mobile phones
According to the police, the team admitted to ganja use. The seized cash was allegedly payment for a performance, which they claim was to be distributed among the team members. Authorities have stated they will verify the claims regarding the money and continue with the investigation based on medical examinations and digital evidence obtained from the confiscated phones.
This arrest comes shortly after a major bust involving hybrid ganja worth Rs2 crore, raising concerns over the growing drug footprint in Kerala’s entertainment circles.
In a related update, Malayalam actors Shine Tom Chacko and Sreenath Bhasi appeared before Kerala Excise officials in Alappuzha today for questioning in connection with the seizure of 3 kg of hybrid ganja from Christina, a script translator, and her associate Feroz.
The Kerala police have stepped up efforts to tackle drug use and trafficking, particularly within high-profile groups, artists, and public figures.
