Lucknow police on Wednesday apprehended two thieves involved in a series of burglaries across the city. The accused, Ravindra Singh (37) and Raju Kashyap (29), were caught with a significant amount of stolen gold and silver ornaments, cash, clothes, and the auto-rickshaw they used to scout and commit their crimes.
According to DCP East Shashank Singh, the duo cleverly used the auto-rickshaw during the day, pretending to look for passengers while secretly searching for houses to target. “At night, they returned to these houses, breaking doors and lockers using chisels and iron rods to steal valuables,” he said.
ACP Ghazipur Anindya Vikram Singh added that Ravindra and Raju lived double lives—one as a driver and the other as a laborer—maintaining a low profile during the day and turning into burglars by night.
The arrests followed investigations into two major thefts on July 7 and August 18, involving stolen jewelry, cash, and ancestral silverware. CCTV footage capturing an auto-rickshaw near the crime scenes gave police the breakthrough they needed. Authorities traced the vehicle to Khurramnagar on Picnic Spot Road, where they nabbed the criminals.
Along with the recovered valuables, police seized Rs 2,870 in cash and burglary tools. Despite their criminal activities, the accused maintained a modest lifestyle, supplementing their income through odd labor jobs.
The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remanded to judicial custody. Police continue their investigation to determine if the duo is linked to other crimes.
