In a swift cross-state operation, Tamil Nadu Police arrested two individuals from Tripura’s Sepahijala district in connection with a gold theft case in Chennai. The accused—Liton Mia and Zakir Hossain, also known as Biton Mia—were apprehended from the Charilam Aralia area under Bishalgarh Sub-division.
Police sources revealed that the duo allegedly stole gold ornaments worth over Rs4 lakh from a Chennai residence on April 7, the same day they arrived in the city purportedly for work.
The case, registered at Thairovanmayur Police Station, prompted an investigation by Chennai authorities. Tracking their movements, Tamil Nadu Police, with support from Bishalgarh Police Station, located and arrested the suspects on Monday afternoon.
They were taken to the Bishalgarh police station for formalities before being escorted to Agartala Airport and flown to Chennai under custody for further questioning.
The arrest scene saw emotional outbursts from the families of the accused, who reportedly broke down in tears at the station.
