Linda Hyman Arrested for $750K Interior Design Theft

Ex-Clive Daniel Home designer accused of defrauding clients

Sarasota, FL — A former interior designer at Clive Daniel Home (CDH) in Sarasota has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $750,000 from clients who had hired her to furnish their new home.

Linda Hyman, 54, was taken into custody on July 17 by Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies. She faces a first-degree felony charge of grand theft over $100,000.

The investigation began after a couple reported to CDH in October 2024 that they had unknowingly been defrauded by Hyman, who was still employed by the firm at the time. According to the victims, Hyman convinced them to wire money directly to her personal accounts, claiming she could secure better prices if they bypassed the company.

Between October 2023 and November 2024, the victims sent 22 wire transfers and eight Venmo payments to Hyman and her husband, totaling $750,304.40. They later discovered that only two payments, amounting to $4,946.83, had ever reached CDH.

Instead, Hyman allegedly used the money to pay off credit card bills, make Amazon purchases, and spend at the Hard Rock Casino and Cafe.

CDH responded swiftly after the complaint, terminating Hyman and contacting law enforcement. The company confirmed that all payments made directly to CDH were used appropriately and that affected clients were contacted to ensure project completion.

“Integrity and professionalism are at the core of our business,” CDH said in a statement. “We are committed to upholding our reputation and client trust.”

Hyman claimed she did not profit from the transactions and that all funds were used to buy items for the couple, despite failing to provide receipts upon request.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for September 25.
