COOK COUNTY, IL — A 23-year-old man from Chicago’s South Austin neighborhood was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools after police found him inside the Illinois Cancer Specialists Center with stolen items, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, when Cook County Sheriff’s Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the cancer center located at 8915 West Golf Road, near the borders of Niles, Des Plaines, and Park Ridge.
Officers discovered the suspect, Leon Walker, inside the facility wearing a center-issued T-shirt and in possession of a screwdriver, cash, three company credit cards, and 14 gift cards. Walker was not an employee or patient of the center and had reportedly entered the facility over the weekend and remained there.
Following the investigation, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against Walker for burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was taken to Sheriff’s Police Headquarters and later appeared in court at the Skokie Courthouse, where a judge released him pending trial.
Walker is scheduled to appear in court again on May 28. Authorities remind the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
