Lenoir Co. Traffic Stop Leads to Meth, Copper Arrests

Virginia Stancil, Bobby Thomas charged after vehicle search

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. — A traffic stop on Friday near Jim Sutton Road and U.S. Highway 70 led to the arrest of two individuals after deputies discovered drugs and a large quantity of burnt copper.

The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office reported that Virginia Stancil and Bobby Thomas were pulled over, and deputies confirmed Thomas had outstanding warrants. A K-9 alert prompted a vehicle search, which uncovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and approximately 40 pounds of burnt copper. Authorities are still investigating the source of the copper.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with:

Possession of Schedule II drugs

Possession of drug paraphernalia

At the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office, Thomas was assigned a $16,000 secured bond, while Stancil was denied bond due to pretrial release conditions.
