In a major crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical drug sales, Indore Police arrested four individuals, including a medical store operator, for their involvement in the illicit trade of Alprazolam tablets on Thursday.
Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya stated that acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team arrested the accused and seized 1,365 Alprazolam tablets and a scooter used for distribution. The drugs were being sold to local youth at prices five to ten times higher than the purchase rate.
The arrests occurred near Chaitanya Hanuman Temple in Rajkumar vegetable market. The suspects — Farhan Qureshi (26), a resident of Chandan Nagar, and Mohammad Ali (25) and Mohammad Hussain (20), both from Sadar Bazaar — attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were apprehended after a brief chase.
During interrogation, the trio failed to produce legal documentation for the tablets. This led police to Kritkarya Sharda (28), a resident of Mhow and a licensed medical store operator. Sharda was identified as the main supplier, allegedly sourcing Alprazolam at low cost and distributing it illegally through Qureshi, who then sold it via his network.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are continuing their investigation to uncover additional links in the supply chain.
