KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Knoxville Police Department officer was arrested Monday in Sevier County, according to the department. KPD reported that the arrest occurred in the morning when deputies with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office took the officer into custody following a domestic altercation involving a family member. He was off duty at the time and has been charged with aggravated domestic assault.

The officer, Adam Barnett, joined the Knoxville Police Department in 2011 and worked as a patrol officer in the East District. KPD stated that its Office of Professional Standards is now conducting an internal investigation, which will run alongside the criminal investigation. Until that internal review is complete, Barnett has been reassigned.
