Security measures have been heightened at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar following the tragic suicide of a third-year B.Tech student from Nepal. In connection with the incident, the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police have arrested 21-year-old Advik Srivastava from Lucknow.

The suicide has led to widespread protests by students, including members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), who have been demanding justice for the deceased student.

Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh confirmed the authorities’ swift response, stating that a case had been registered after receiving information about the incident.

“We were informed about the suicide of a third-year Computer Science student at KIIT University. The victim, originally from Nepal, was allegedly harassed by a third-year Mechanical Engineering student from KIIT. After investigating the matter, we found prima facie evidence of harassment that could have led to the suicide. As a result, we arrested the accused, Advik Srivastava, who has now been forwarded to judicial custody,” said the Commissioner on Monday evening.

The case continues to unfold, and the police are committed to further investigation into the matter.
