Lucresia Stone-Rojas, a 46-year-old woman from San Diego, was sentenced to 86 months in federal prison for firearm and drug offenses. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California confirmed her conviction on Friday.
On November 12, 2023, Stone-Rojas was stopped by law enforcement in El Cajon after a stolen Porsche was flagged by license plate readers. During the stop, police discovered a loaded 9mm Walther handgun and an ammunition magazine. Due to multiple prior felony convictions, Stone-Rojas was prohibited from possessing firearms.
“Felons with multiple convictions who illegally possess firearms will be held accountable,” stated ATF Special Agent in Charge Kenneth R. Cooper.
Stone-Rojas was arrested again on December 27, 2023, after federal agents discovered sealed packages addressed to multiple California prison inmates. Upon inspection, authorities found 23 grams of heroin hidden in the spines of two Bibles, intended for distribution within California prisons.
“Drug smuggling into prisons endangers inmates and staff. It will not be tolerated,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Andrew Haden. He added that the case serves as a warning to anyone attempting to exploit faith-based tools for illicit activities.
Stone-Rojas’ sentencing underscores the ongoing effort to address illegal firearm possession and drug trafficking.
