BRADENTON, Fla. — Keshaun Williams, 26, was arrested for animal cruelty after allegedly throwing his girlfriend’s cat against a brick wall, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
The investigation started when a local veterinary hospital notified police that a cat in their care had injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. The cat’s owner told officers she discovered her pet injured after returning home. She claimed Williams threw the cat against the wall and has a history of violence toward the animal.
Police report the cat is currently recovering. Williams was charged with animal cruelty, a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.
The Bradenton Police Department noted that individuals who harm animals often escalate to other forms of violence. After the incident, the cat’s owner praised the police for their compassionate and professional response during a difficult time.
Authorities continue to encourage anyone who witnesses animal abuse to report it immediately to protect vulnerable pets.
