SUMTER, S.C. — A 46-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly assaulting someone inside a home and then fleeing naked, only to be found hiding in a tree.
Sumter County deputies responded to a reported assault around 2:11 a.m. at a residence on Paige Drive. Witnesses told authorities that Kelly Jack Breland was involved in a heated argument with another person before allegedly becoming violent and assaulting them. Following the assault, Breland fled the scene without any clothing.
Deputies located Breland nearby, hiding naked in a tree, and took him into custody without incident.
He was charged with second-degree assault and battery and third-degree domestic violence. Breland was transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is currently held on a $25,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
