A 24-year-old man, Katiike Rakesh, has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a 50-year-old woman, Dasari Lalitha alias Laxmi, in Athvelly village, Medchal. The crime occurred on May 16 and came to light after police received reports of smoke rising from the woman’s rented house.
The investigation revealed that Rakesh, a labourer from Saidabad, Dilsukhnagar and a native of Kamareddy, had visited Lalitha under the pretext of seeking employment. However, the meeting turned violent during a robbery attempt that escalated into a fatal assault. The victim’s body was found mutilated and partially burnt, indicating an effort to destroy evidence.
Police discovered the crime scene after concerned locals reported suspicious smoke. Lalitha had reportedly been living alone for the past six months in the rented residence.
Authorities acted swiftly, launching a probe that led to the arrest of the accused. The case has raised alarms about personal safety and trust, especially concerning those living alone.
