Harrisonburg, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Katelynn Ann Hipes, 22, of Augusta County, was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Harrisonburg in connection with the recent homicide of Kevin Scott Small.
Small, 47, of Shipman, was found outside his home by Nelson County Sheriff’s deputies on Friday, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) had received a tip on Friday indicating that Hipes might be in the area. On Tuesday, around 4 p.m., the HPD SWAT team, with help from the Crisis Negotiations Team, executed a search warrant at a residence on Lee Avenue. Hipes was taken into custody without any resistance.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
