The Calangute police arrested DM Santosha, a 27-year-old resident of Shimoga, Karnataka, on Monday for his involvement in a theft at a tourist villa in Gaura Vaddo, Calangute.

The theft, which occurred on November 16, 2024, saw the accused stealing valuable items worth Rs. 3.25 lakh, including three high-end laptops, a watch, and a sum of Rs. 25,000 in both local and international currencies.

The victim, Ashley, an Australian tourist, was staying at Casa Das Imras Villa with his family. Taking advantage of their absence, Santosha allegedly broke into the villa in the middle of the night and made off with the items.

Police were able to identify the thief after reviewing CCTV footage from the villa’s premises, which clearly showed the suspect’s face. With the help of Karnataka police, a coordinated effort led to Santosha’s arrest.

Authorities revealed that Santosha has a criminal history, having been involved in several thefts across the country. He is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
