The Kaithal police have arrested Gurinder Singh, a travel agent from Chandigarh, for defrauding a man by promising him a job abroad, specifically in New Zealand. The arrest was made by the economic cell of Kaithal police following a complaint by the victim, Vikram Singh, a resident of Balbehra village in Cheeka town, Kaithal district.
Vikram Singh claimed that he had contacted Gurinder Singh and his accomplices—Parvinder Singh, Jaskeerat Kaur, and Gagandeep Kaur—in 2023 after seeking assistance to work abroad. The accused assured Vikram that they could secure him a New Zealand work visa within 45 days for a fee of Rs 12.5 lakh. Between May and September 2023, the accused took the money, showing Vikram a joining letter from a company and promising to send him abroad. However, two years later, no visa was provided, and the accused failed to return the money.
When Vikram demanded a refund, the accused allegedly threatened to kill him. This prompted Vikram to file a complaint with the police, which led to the registration of a case at the Cheeka police station.
Gurinder Singh was already in custody in Chandigarh for an unrelated case, but a production warrant was obtained, and he was brought before the Kaithal court for further interrogation. The court granted a four-day police remand for investigation, as stated by Praveen, the police spokesperson.
