In a swift early morning operation, police in West Jaintia Hills arrested three individuals and recovered three stolen scooters linked to a vehicle theft ring operating from Shillong.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team intercepted a suspicious car without a registration plate near Demthring at around 2:30 am on Friday. Upon inspection, parts of dismantled vehicles were found inside the car.
Following a spot interrogation, the accused led police to a nearby jungle where three stolen scooters had been hidden. The arrested individuals were identified as:
Jopparson Rabon (24)
Meshanki Langstang (22), both residents of Thangrai
Paulme Sungoh (21) from Nongbah Lawmusiang
During preliminary questioning, the trio admitted to stealing the vehicles from the Laban and Jhalupara areas in Shillong. Police have seized the recovered scooters and taken them to Jowai police station for further investigation.
Officials say this operation may help unravel a broader vehicle theft network in the region.
