Pontiac, MI – A Michigan charter school teacher has been charged with engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student after allegedly confiding in a colleague, authorities revealed.

Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, of Pontiac, faces a third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge, stemming from the alleged 2023 incidents during her time as a teacher at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township.

According to Oakland County prosecutors, Sanroman told another teacher at the school about the sexual relationship, prompting that colleague to notify police.

“This defendant is accused of using her position of authority to exploit a minor victim,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. “These allegations represent the ultimate breach of trust placed in educators.”

Sanroman had not been arraigned as of Monday morning, but her mugshot was released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison.

Oakside Prep Academy is part of the National Heritage Academies system, which emphasizes moral instruction, including a program called “Moral Focus” that teaches right from wrong.

Prosecutor McDonald praised the teacher who came forward, saying their actions likely prevented further harm to students.
