The Jigawa State Police Command has successfully apprehended two individuals, Haruna Alhaji Yusuf and Magaji Mohammed, in connection with separate motorcycle robbery incidents that occurred in the state earlier this month.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the arrests were confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday. The first incident took place on March 5, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m., when a commercial motorcyclist, Idris Ya’u, 22, of Gwani village, Fagam town, was attacked during his ride between Gwani and Haya village.
The passenger, who pretended to stop to answer a phone call, allegedly struck the motorcyclist with a stick, knocking him unconscious, before fleeing with his Bajaj red motorcycle (registration number TRN 704 QL Kano). Following a series of investigations, the police apprehended Haruna Alhaji Yusuf, 30, of Kafin Tugga village, on March 12, 2025, at around 6:00 a.m. Yusuf was found in possession of the stolen motorcycle and has since confessed to the crime.
In a related incident on March 13, 2025, around 7:40 p.m., police officers on routine patrol near the Jigawa State Legislative Quarters responded to a distress call and found Yunusa Suleman, 30, of G-9 Quarters, unconscious. Suleman had been attacked by an unidentified suspect who stole his motorcycle. After receiving medical attention at a local hospital, security operatives and vigilantes launched a manhunt for the suspects.
The police arrested Magaji Mohammed, 30, of Babaldu town, on March 13, in possession of a motorcycle. Investigations revealed that Mohammed had hired the motorcyclist under the pretense of needing a ride. Once they reached Dasina Quarters, his accomplice, Suleiman Nasaru (now at large), allegedly attacked the rider with a hammer and stole the motorcycle.
Additionally, another victim, Idris Abdulaziz, from Jigawar Tsada, identified Mohammed as the person who robbed him of his Boxer motorcycle near the Matrix Filling Station along the Ibrahim Aliyu Bypass on March 12, 2025.
The Jigawa State Police have assured that investigations into both cases are ongoing and that all suspects will face prosecution for their actions.
