ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Jessica Breanne Awalt, 34, has been charged with multiple felony offenses including financial card theft and breaking and entering in Asheville’s River Arts District.
According to a statement from the Asheville Police Department on September 5, officers began investigating a reported larceny from a residential storage unit on Roberts Street on September 4. The victim reported that a safe containing financial cards and important documents was stolen.
Police reviewed security footage showing the suspect using one of the stolen cards at a convenience store on Depot Street. Shortly after, officers located Awalt on Tunnel Road and took her into custody without incident.
At the time of arrest, Awalt was found to be in possession of the stolen cards and crack cocaine, according to police.
Awalt was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $20,000 secured bond and faces the following charges:
Felony breaking and entering
Felony larceny after breaking and entering
11 counts of financial card theft
Felony identity theft
Felony possession of stolen goods/property
Felony possession of cocaine
Felony altering/destroying criminal evidence
Possession of Schedule IV substances
Possession of drug paraphernalia
The investigation is ongoing, and police indicated that additional charges may be filed.
