WATERBURY, Conn. (WFSB) — An 18-year-old New Britain woman, identified as Jaylanie Ortiz, was arrested Sunday after crashing a stolen Mercedes while officers watched the incident happen in real time.
Police said the crash occurred on Wall Street in Waterbury when Ortiz lost control of a stolen 2010 Mercedes and struck a small fence. Officers at the scene immediately intervened and took Ortiz into custody.
She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being released back into police custody.
Ortiz now faces several charges, including motor vehicle theft, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, and third-degree criminal mischief. She was also cited for traffic violations such as traveling too fast for conditions and failure to obey a stop sign.
Authorities have not yet disclosed when or where the Mercedes was originally stolen.
