Country singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson was arrested on Sunday (Nov. 17) after being pulled over for speeding by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. According to court documents obtained by The Tennessean, Johnson was charged in Williamson County with speeding and possession of drugs with the intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell the controlled substance. The felony charge carries a potential fine of up to $5,000.
Johnson’s court date is scheduled for February 6. Despite this legal setback, the country star has previously opened up about his personal journey to sobriety. In an interview with Billboard earlier this month, Johnson revealed that he stopped drinking in September 2011 and quit smoking marijuana in 2015. Although he acknowledged occasional marijuana use, Johnson emphasized that he stays away from alcohol, which had previously led him down a destructive path.
The 10-time Grammy-nominated artist, who has not won a Grammy, recently released his first album in 14 years, Midnight Gasoline, on November 8. This album is the first in his Cash Cabin Series, a collection of projects he plans to release through Warner Music Nashville and his own Big Gassed Records.
