HALIFAX, N.S. — James Robert Dwyer, 65, has been hit with 22 additional charges related to a series of renovation and repair scams targeting seniors in Halifax, authorities announced.

Dwyer was initially arrested on September 15 and charged with multiple offenses including fraud under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, misleading police, and issuing fraudulent receipts. These charges stem from scams reported between July 8 and August 18.

Police describe Dwyer as a white man with a bald head, crooked teeth, and clean-shaven, speaking with a Newfoundland accent. He has used various aliases such as John Andrews, Robert Squires, and Bob Andrews.

According to investigators, Dwyer typically collects deposits from victims but fails to complete the promised work.

On September 23, Halifax Regional Police added 11 more counts each of fraud under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge residents to verify contractor credentials before agreeing to any services.
