James Gustafson Jr. Arrested for $30K Home Improvement Fraud

Delaware man charged with construction scam, victim unpaid

by Amelia Crawford

Delaware State Police arrested 45-year-old James Gustafson Jr. of Dagsboro on September 24, 2025, on charges of home improvement fraud.

The investigation began in November 2024 after troopers learned Gustafson had signed a contract with a 60-year-old client to perform construction work. The victim paid Gustafson $30,000 upfront, but the work was never completed, nor was the money refunded.

A warrant for Gustafson’s arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody by the Ocean View Police Department before being handed over to Delaware State Police.

Gustafson was charged with home improvement fraud by false pretense involving $1,500 or more. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on his own recognizance.

Authorities continue to investigate the case.
