Shrewsbury, U.K. — Police have arrested and charged James Colin Evans, 50, of Mill Road, Cambridge, in connection with a significant theft that occurred in Shrewsbury more than two years ago.

Evans was arrested last week after officers located him inside Shrewsbury Market Hall, acting on a tip received through the Shop Watch radio network.

According to West Mercia Police, officers responded swiftly to reports of a man believed to be responsible for a major theft from a Shrewsbury town centre store in 2022. Evans was detained at the scene and later charged.

He faces four theft-related charges spanning incidents in Shropshire and Sussex between 2022 and 2025.

A police spokesperson credited the Shop Watch program for helping officers identify and locate the suspect quickly, describing it as “vital” to the successful arrest.

Evans is scheduled to appear before Norwich Magistrates’ Court on November 25.
