BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) — A Kentucky man was arrested after police say he was caught attempting to steal copper wire from beneath a bridge in Bowling Green.

According to the arrest citation, officers were investigating an abandoned car Thursday afternoon near Highway 185 and Old Richardsville Road when they noticed a path leading under a nearby bridge.

There, they found James Bledsoe with another man dragging a long telephone wire. When officers ordered Bledsoe to stop, he attempted to walk away, prompting police to use a taser to subdue him.

Bledsoe later admitted that he planned to strip the wire for copper, police said.

An AT&T worker estimated the damage and repair costs to exceed $1,000, according to court documents.

Bledsoe now faces several charges, including trespassing on key infrastructure, criminal mischief, possession of burglary tools, fleeing from police, and theft.
