In Kollam, police have arrested Jais Ullas (30) from Alappuzha in connection with a human trafficking case involving the illegal transportation of individuals to Vietnam for online fraud. This arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Praveen from Edavattom.
Victims were brought to Vietnam on tourist visas and were then housed in hotels near the Cambodian border. Upon crossing the border, Cambodian agents would confiscate the victims’ passports and phones, taking them into Cambodia illegally. The accused received commissions exceeding Rs1 lakh for each person trafficked.
Once in Cambodia, the young men were forced to participate in online scams, targeting individuals worldwide through social media. They endured grueling work hours of 18 to 20 and faced physical abuse if they failed to meet their quotas.
Investigations revealed that locals were training these youths in fraudulent practices and facilitating their exploitation. Further inquiries are ongoing as authorities continue to unravel the network behind this trafficking operation.
